Learn how to create simple, well-shaped felted slippers in a private one-to-one online class with Inga from BureBure.

This is the first class in the felted footwear series. During this live two-hour lesson, Inga will guide you through the complete process – from choosing the right slipper shape and drawing the template to calculating the wool, felting, shaping, and finishing your slippers.

This class is mainly intended for experienced feltmakers. If you have very little felting experience, please contact Inga after booking so that she can help you prepare and decide whether this class is suitable for you.

Inga has been making felted footwear for 20 years, and it is her main area of expertise. Over the years, she has developed her own highly efficient system for calculating wool quantity, creating templates, organising the felting process, and shaping footwear. When needed, she can felt a complete pair of slippers in approximately one hour – a level of speed and precision achieved through many years of professional experience.

In this private class, Inga will share the methods she uses in her own studio, including techniques that are rarely taught in standard felting workshops.

What You Will Learn

During the class, you will learn:

  • How slipper templates work and how to draw them correctly

  • Which template shape is needed for different styles of slippers

  • How to make clogs, low-back clogs, and simple felted slippers

  • How much shrinkage allowance is needed depending on the type and thickness of the wool

  • How much wool is needed for different slipper sizes and styles

  • How to calculate the correct amount of wool using Inga’s own weight and size calculation system

  • How to organise your work efficiently and complete each stage in the correct order

  • How to lay the wool evenly

  • How to wet, join, and decorate the wool

  • How to begin felting quickly and correctly

  • How to felt the slippers thoroughly and evenly

  • How to cut the opening, shape the slippers, finish them correctly, and prepare them for drying

Materials

Please prepare your materials before the lesson. Materials are not included in the class price.

After booking, please contact Inga to discuss the wool and other materials you plan to use. This is especially important because the wool type, thickness, slipper size, and chosen design will affect the template, wool quantity, and felting process.

Materials You Will Need

  1. Plastic bubble wrap

  2. Approximately 300–400 g of wool, depending on the slipper size and wool type
Tyrolean mountain sheep wool is recommended

  3. Plain household soap

  4. A non-slip rubber mat – the type commonly placed near a doorway can work well

  5. A piece of synthetic fabric or sheer curtain fabric

  6. Scissors

  7. A bowl or container with water

  8. A comfortable, water-resistant working surface

Optional Materials

  • Wool, silk, linen, hemp fibres/fabric or other materials for decoration

  • A container for heating water

  • A good pair of shoe lasts. If you do not have them, you will need to make the slippers in your own size or in the size of someone who will be with you during the class – for example, a friend, child, partner, or neighbour.

Do not worry if you do not have everything on the list. After booking, contact Inga and tell her which materials and tools you already have. She will help you choose suitable wool, calculate the required amount, and prepare for the class.
If you have purchased wool or any other materials for the class from BureBure, please make sure they will arrive before your scheduled lesson.

    Before the Class

After booking, please contact Inga before the lesson to discuss your felting experience, the slipper style and size you would like to make, and the materials available to you.

If you are a beginner or have only felted a few small projects, it is especially important to contact Inga in advance. She will help you prepare and explain what you need before your private class.
