Soles

The right sole determines how and where your wool footwear can be worn.

Some BureBure styles are made for soft, lightweight wear at home. Others are designed with a stronger sole, so you can step outside on dry ground, walk around the garden, or enjoy warmer wool footwear in colder seasons.
Below you can find the main sole options we use for our handmade felted wool footwear.

Each sole has a different purpose, so it is worth choosing the one that best matches how you plan to wear your pair.

Natural Latex Soles for Lightweight Indoor Slippers

Natural latex is the lightest and most flexible sole option. Instead of stitching a separate sole to the slipper, we apply several thin layers of liquid latex directly onto the felted wool sole. The latex absorbs into the wool, strengthens the base, and helps make the slippers less slippery while keeping them soft and breathable.

Latex soles are best for lightweight indoor slippers. They are intended for indoor use only.

When applied properly, the latex becomes part of the woolen sole. You can feel the extra grip and firmness, but the sole still looks natural and remains close in color to the rest of the footwear.

Recycled Leather or Suede with Cork

Leather or suede soles with cork are a classic choice for comfortable house footwear. This option gives the slippers a firmer base while still keeping them soft and natural.

They are designed mainly for indoor use, but you can also wear them briefly outside when the ground is dry — for example, on a terrace, in the garden, or when picking up the mail.

At BureBure, we use recycled leather and suede. We combine these materials with cork and hand-stitch the soles to the felted wool using strong professional shoemaking thread.

    Natural Crepe Rubber Soles

Natural crepe rubber is flexible, comfortable, and durable. This sole option is suitable if you want wool footwear that can be worn both indoors and briefly outdoors in dry weather.

Crepe rubber softens with wear, provides good grip, and gives pleasant cushioning under the foot.

Rubber Soles for Warmer Wool Footwear

Stronger rubber soles are used for warmer wool shoes and boots. This option is a good choice when you want more stability, durability, and protection.

The rubber sole bends comfortably while walking and has a slightly raised heel, which gives the footwear a more supportive shape. These soles are suitable for colder seasons and dry winter conditions.

As with our other stitched soles, rubber soles are attached by hand using strong professional shoemaking thread.

How to Choose the Right Sole

Choose natural latex if you want very light indoor slippers.

Choose leather or suede with cork if you want classic house footwear with a firmer base.

Choose natural crepe rubber if you want slippers or shoes that can be worn indoors and briefly outdoors in dry weather.

Choose stronger rubber soles if you need warmer, more durable wool footwear for colder days.

Each BureBure pair is made by hand, so the sole is selected and finished according to the style and purpose of the footwear.
